(Albany, NY) The New York State Association of Health Care Providers, Inc. (HCP) will focus on the value of home care and the many contributions of dedicated caregivers throughout the month of November, in recognition of National Home Care and Hospice Month.

“This time of year as Thanksgiving approaches, our thoughts turn to home and family,” said Claudia Hammar, HCP President. “It’s the ideal time to celebrate the value of home and home care for the thousands of elderly, disabled and chronically-ill New Yorkers who receive essential health care in the comfort of their own home, and the compassionate caregivers  that provide those services.”

New York State’s home care agencies employ over 250,000 workers, including registered professional nurses, therapists, social workers, home health aides and personal care aides. With ten thousand Americans reaching age 65 every day and more people choosing to age in place, the demand for home care services is projected to double by 2050.

Home care agencies serve a wide range of people, including seniors who need assistance with activities of daily living to maintain their quality of life; – postsurgical patients; people with disabilities; those with chronic diseases; new mothers and their babies; and pediatric long term care patients.

Caregivers play an instrumental role in the delivery of affordable, quality health care. By enabling individuals to remain in their own homes, the State and nation’s health care costs decrease, as does reliance on institutionalized care.

Throughout November, HCP and its members will be working to raise awareness of the value of home care through news releases, social media, and local activities. The highlight of the month will be Home Care Aide Week, November 13-17, when HCP and its members will recognize many dedicated “Heroes in the Home” – outstanding caregivers who have made a significant difference in the lives of home care clients and their families.
