Home Care Impact of COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

HCP has been in contact with the NYS Department of Health (DOH/the Department) today regarding the vaccine mandate and the crisis looming for home care recipients in the State.

All home care agencies are urged to continue their assessment of impending staff shortages in light of the State COVID-19 vaccine mandate. It’s crucial that this information is communicated to the Department in advance of the October 7 deadline.

DOH has requested that all agencies review and implement their emergency preparedness plans as appropriate. As part of this preparedness, the Department asks providers to contact their regional DOH offices “to report the expected loss of staff and impact on patient census.” The Department tells HCP that they are collecting this data on a rolling basis.

Several HCP members have alerted the Association that they will begin reassigning cases this week in order to prepare patients, staff, and schedulers for the changes. HCP encourages all agencies to follow suit by staying ahead of what promises to be an arduous task.

Mandate FAQs Available, DAL Pending

The Department also told HCP today that the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) is still pending final review.
